Renewal of registration
Teachers who hold full registration have met standards of professional practice. To maintain their registration teachers are required to renew their registration every five years. To do this they need to declare they have:
- maintained an appropriate level of professional practice with regard to the standards of professional practice
and
- continued their suitability to be a teacher.
Renewal of registration recognises and acknowledges the continuing professional learning of teachers in Victoria. In renewing their registration Victorian teachers are also demonstrating to the community that they maintain high standards of professional practice and conduct and continue to be suitable to be a teacher.
In May 2007, an information brochure (PDF - 130 KB) on registration renewal was sent to every fully registered teacher. This booklet contains comprehensive information which will answer questions teachers may have about the renewal process.
A guide to the professional development requirements for renewal of registration (PDF - 283 KB) was sent to all teachers in iteach in September 2008.

Teachers who are due to renew their registration are mailed an application form to renew their registration. To complete the application, teachers are required to make declarations of their continued suitability to teach and maintenance of professional practice.
A set of notes accompanies the application form to assist teachers with any queries they may have. No evidence is required on application and all teachers have to do is return the form in the enclosed envelope, ensuring that all relevant sections are completed and the form is signed.
Teachers unable to renew their registration will have the opportunity to apply for either an extension of their registration or non-practising registration. Information about these options is contained in the accompanying notes.
Teachers will need to ensure that they have a current and satisfactory national criminal history record check (NCHRC) to renew their registration.
