Registered Teachers

Registered Teachers

Casual relief teachers (CRTs) play a critical role in education by:

  • ensuring that schools are able to provide continuity of programs and teaching.
  • being available at very short notice.

The Institute is committed to supporting CRTs and has the following strategies in place to provide professional learning which supports the requirement for full registration.

Seminar program 2010

The following dates have been set for seminars in the first half of 2010. Details for the second half of the year will be available later.

Sandhurst CRT program 2010

The Institute and Sandhurst Diocese hold a number of professional development sessions for casual relief, emergency teachers and teachers thinking of returning to teaching. Details of dates and venues will be available soon.

Pdi

A professional development search facility providing information and awareness on a wide range of learning opportunities. A 'one stop shop' for teachers.

Networks

Networks are being established across Victoria where there is interest from CRTs. They provide an avenue for teachers to meet regularly to share information and gain knowledge.

The Institute initially provides support for CRT networks until they are able to operate independently and then provides information and updates.

Currently CRT networks are operating in a range of regional locations. If you wish to join one of these networks please contact the relevant coordinator.

School suppport

All schools in Victoria are encouraged to invite and include CRTs in their planning for professional development.

The Institute supports schools with funding to provide PD for CRTs.

Schools currently running PD sessions for CRTs can be accessed through Pdi.

Professional Practice

A regular column for CRTs provides information, topics of interest and network contacts.

CRTs applying for full registration

In 2009 CRTs wishing to apply for full registration need to seek the agreement of a principal to undertake the recommendation process. CRTs may choose to use option 2 to gather evidence for full registration. This option reflects the work of a CRT which frequently involves teaching in a variety of contexts and in a range of classes.

Full details are available in the provisionally registered teachers support materials which include a CD-ROM and a manual that is provided upon attending a provisionally registered teachers seminar.
