1. Initial teacher education programs - Special Education
The following programs are approved initial teacher education programs that prepare graduates to become Special Education teachers.
LA TROBE UNIVERSITY (Bendigo campus)
- Bachelor of Education - 4-year undergraduate program approved for primary teaching in Victoria. This program has an optional pathway approved for teaching Special Education.
- Bachelor of Early Childhood Education - 4-year undergraduate program approved for primary teaching in Victoria. This program has an optional pathway approved for teaching Special Education.

- Bachelor of Education (Special Education) - 4-year program approved for preparing graduates as primary, secondary and special education teachers

2. Endorsed teachers education programs - Special Education
The following programs are endorsed by the Institute for qualified teachers who wish to gain further qualifications in Special Education. The one year full-time or part-time equivalent programs listed are also suitable for three-year qualified teachers wishing to upgrade their qualifications to four-year qualified status.

- Master of Education (Special Educational Needs) - a one year full-time or part-time equivalent program for qualified teachers to also become special education teachers

THE UNIVERSITY OF BALLARAT (Ballarat campus)
- Master of Special Education – a two year full-time or part-time equivalent program for qualified teachers to also become qualified special Education teachers. Four-year qualified teachers with appropriate experience may be eligible for up to one year credit into the program.
