Your school portal
Principals are able to access a secure online facility, the School Portal, using unique login details provided by the Institute.
Access the School Portal.
The School Portal can also be accessed by clicking the yellow 'School' tab from the front page of the Institute website.
The value of the School Portal is that it enables principals to confirm:
- the current registration status of all teachers at their school
- the current registration status of a teacher they wish to appoint to the school, and
- that a beginning teacher has been granted provisional registration and can start teaching.
The school portal also allows principals to record the details of teachers now teaching at their school who are not listed under 'All Teachers', or to remove a teacher who does appear in that list, but is no longer teaching at the school.
When principals (or their authorised delegates) enter the site, they will be prompted to enter a school ID and password.
The Institute has provided principals with their unique school ID and password to access the school portal. If this information has been mislaid, please ring the Principals' Hotline on 1300 650 375 or email the Institute at vit@vit.vic.edu.au .
In addition to the school portal, principals can check the registration status of a teacher by asking to see their current registration card or by ringing the Principals' Hotline on 1300 650 375 or emailing the Institute at vit@vit.vic.edu.au .

Permission to teach
The Institute Council approved changes to the Permission to Teach Policy on 13 October 2010. These changes are effective from 1 January 2011.
Under the policy, sports coaches, instrumental music instructors and other instructors whose duties related to co-curricular or extra-curricular programs are not required to hold permission to teach.
