Dear Colleague,

I would like to take the opportunity to remind you about the Effective Mentoring Program (commencing later this month) as well as the Supporting Provisionally Teachers afterschool seminars (commencing in April).

Please forward this email to the relevant staff members.

The Effective Mentoring Program

The Effective Mentoring program is a joint initiative between the Victorian Institute of Teaching and the Department of Education and Training, with the support of the Association of Independent Schools Victoria and the Catholic Education Offices.

The program is designed to equip experienced registered teachers who are mentoring or intending to mentor Provisionally Registered Teachers.

Program purposes:
  • to support the development of effective peer mentoring and coaching practices for teacher mentors.
  • to equip teacher mentors with the knowledge and skills needed to support PRTs through to (full) registration.
Teachers interested in mentoring need to register online through their online portal. Teachers will need to attend both days.
  • the first day of the program will commence on Wednesday 1 March 2017
  • the second day of the program will commence Friday 5 May 2017
Dates and venues for each session will be published in teacher portals and on our website.

Supporting Provisionally Registered Teachers seminars

VIT will also be conducting afterschool ‘Supporting Provisionally Registered Teachers’ seminars. Twenty information seminars will be held around Victoria in key metropolitan and regional locations from April to July. There will also be six online seminars.

Provisionally registered teachers who are new to the profession are strongly encouraged to attend a session to ensure they are fully conversant with the process for (full) registration.

Seminar topics:
  • requirements of gaining (full) registration.
  • evidence-based process using the inquiry approach.
  • resources for completing evidence of professional practice.

PRTs will also have the opportunity to chat to VIT staff.

Please encourage relevant teachers to attend. Information about the seminar will be sent to PRTs in the next few weeks when registration for the sessions open.

Teachers interested in the PRT seminars will need to register through their online portal.

Dates and venues will be published in teacher portals, and you can read more information about PRT seminars here.

Thank you for supporting this important work and taking the time to read this circular. If you have any questions, please call the EC hotline on 1300 977 263.
Kind regards

Melanie Saba
