How to have a document certified

You will be required to provide documents with your application. These documents must be certified copies of the original documents.

To have a document certified, you should make a photocopy of the original document and take the original and the copy to an authorised person. View a list of persons authorised to witness statutory declarations under the Victorian Evidence (Misc. Provisions) Act 1958 - Section 107A (PDF - 72 KB).

The person must then certify on every page of the document, 'I have sighted the original document and certify this to be a true copy of the original.' The person should then sign each statement and provide their designation, for example, 'Police Officer'.

Note: The Institute will neither return the certified copies of documents submitted with your application nor provide copies of these documents to you in the future.
