Celebrating 25 years of the Victorian Teachers' Games

The Victorian Teachers' Games (VTG) is a major event that provides an opportunity for education professionals to participate and connect through a range of sporting, recreational, wellness and social activities.

VTG is a multi-day, multi-sport event that invites Victorian education staff to a regional location each year to participate, connect and be inspired by and with their peers.

Teams of staff from schools across Victoria enjoy the event as a unique way to build team morale and enhance staff health and wellbeing. The VTG also aims to build workforce capability amongst Victorian educators, including understanding the value of school sport, to enhance the Education State and school sport outcomes.

The Victorian Institute of Teaching wishes all registered teachers the best of luck competing in the games this year.

Celebrating 25 years

The inaugural VTG took place in Geelong in 1996 and was founded by local teacher Peter Currie.

From 1996 to 2013, VTG was organised by the regional offices of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

From 2014 onwards, the Department of Education and Training assigned School Sport Victoria (SSV) to deliver the event, who also deliver an extensive school sport program to primary and secondary students across Victoria.

In 2022, VTG celebrates 25 years of travelling across the state delivering a fun-filled program for the real heroes of Victoria – our teachers!
