Child safe standards

18 MAY 2016

You can watch the the Minister for Education's video message on the implementation of child safe standards here.

Child safe standards manage the risk of child abuse in organisations and are being phased in during 2016 and 2017.

Registered schools have an important responsibility for keeping children safe. While many organisations already have policies in place, these standards will ensure minimum requirements are implemented across the board.

The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) has been working with stakeholders in the schools sector in order to ensure they are ready for the implementation.

To access further information and resources about child safe standards visit the resources page of the VRQA website.

What does this mean for registered teachers?

The implementation of child safe standards is the responsibility of school leaders, however all professionals working in schools will play a part in the process.

The child safe standards complement the Australian Professional Standards teachers meet and maintain and are consistent with the high standards of professional conduct that all teachers exhibit in their interactions with learners, colleagues, parents / carers and the wider educational community.
