If you are a principal, manager or hold any leadership role, the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) is a valuable resource. ACEL is dedicated to developing leadership capabilities, and provides professional learning activities, international conferences, publications, online programs, and other partnership initiatives in leadership development. Access to these leadership-focused opportunities is available for classroom teachers through to system leaders.
There are a number of programs of particular interest. The ACEL Elevate program provides leaders with learning resources aligned to the Australian Professional Standard for Principals and tailored, on-call support from experienced and well-networked educators willing to assist school leaders deal successfully with daily school issues, develop a professional learning plan and/or connect to other leaders in the ACEL network.
The Early Career Principal Program is designed for principals in the early years of their role to transition with confidence into a new level of leadership with a focus on maximising their impact from the start. It includes intensive face-to-face workshops, professional engagement with a Learning and Development Partner and a follow up online session.
ACEL recently held their leadership conference in Melbourne, featuring a range of highly esteemed guest speakers, including John Hattie. Next year’s conference will be held in Sydney in October. You can find out more on ACEL’s website.
