The Minister for Education, the Hon. James Merlino, recently announced Excellence in Teacher Education reforms to attract and develop the best and brightest teachers to Victoria.
The Excellence in Teacher Education reforms are about selecting and supporting the best new entrants into Victorian teaching programs.
The initiatives will help raise the quality of teaching in Victoria and lift the profile of the profession by reforming selection requirements for entry into teaching, creating new pathways into teaching and supporting early career teachers.
Council Chair Lesley Lamb said VIT welcomes the Minister’s initiative.
“It is essential that Victorian students have teachers with a strong academic background and great interpersonal skills. Our students deserve the best. VIT will continue to work productively with the Department and universities to implement these initiatives,” said Ms Lamb.
“The Excellence in Teacher Education reforms will go a long way in ensuring Victoria has the best teachers in the country and this will support great outcomes for our learners in Victoria.”
