01 JULY 2017
As part of our celebration of NAIDOC Week 2017 VIT wishes to pay respect to the Traditional Owners of our land; their rich culture, their heritage and their continual relationship with the lands and waters.
When meeting the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, proficient teachers provide opportunities for learners to develop understanding of, and respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) histories, cultures and languages, and we encourage all teachers to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2017 with their learners.
VIT is proud to have been a partner in the development of a series of ATSI cultural awareness modules for teachers that can be accessed here.
This year NAIDOC Week’s national celebrations focus on the importance, resilience and richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages. You can read more about NAIDOC Week here.
