Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) requirements for 2019 teacher registration applicants

20 DECEMBER 2018

The Victorian Institute of Teaching has revised its Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) policy, and we are pleased to advise the Minister for Education has approved the new 2019 LANTITE policy.

The new LANTITE policy comes into effect on 1 January 2019 and replaces the previous 2017 Qualification for Teacher Registration Literacy and Numeracy Test Policy.

Key changes

From 1 January 2019

  • VIT will only approve applications for provisional registration where the teacher has successfully completed the LANTITE;
  • All currently provisionally registered teachers (PRTs) with the LANTITE condition whose registration expires before they successfully complete the LANTITE, will not be granted a further period of provisional registration until they successfully complete the LANTITE; and
  • Any teacher who exhausts their allowable resits of the LANTITE will not be granted a further period of provisional registration.

VIT will be communicating directly with those teachers specifically affected by the changes.

Applications for teacher registration submitted before 31 December 2018 will come under the old policy and may therefore be eligible for provisional registration with an imposed condition to satisfactorily complete LANTITE during this period.

The VIT is committed to implementing enhancements set by the Victorian Government and the Minister for Education to ensure that Victorian children are taught by teachers of the highest quality.
