Mentoring Programs and PRT Seminars

11 NOVEMBER 2019

Mentoring Programs

If you are interested in mentoring provisionally registered teachers (PRTs), a number of programs and a new workshop will be available in 2020.

DET and other Mentoring Programs

The Department of Education and Training (DET) will again offer cross sector access to their two-day Mentoring Program. VIT will work closely with DET, Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) and the Catholic Education Office (CEO) in an effort to increase the reach of our mentoring training through this program.

This is a tremendous opportunity for experienced school or early childhood teachers to professionally develop their mentoring skills, so they can support teachers in the early stages of their career.

The Mentoring Program focuses on the skills needed to mentor a PRT through the process of moving from provisional to (full) registration.

If you have already completed a VIT-trained mentor program, a refresher course will also be offered.

An email including venue details and dates will be sent to schools and early childhood providers in late January, with registrations opening in February.

VIT Mentoring Workshop

In 2020, VIT will run a Mentor Coordinator Workshop for educational leaders who are responsible for coordinating mentors and PRTs.

The workshop is tailored to those responsible for directing and supervising the induction, mentoring and application of (full) registration for new and returning teachers, with the aim to successfully manage and lead groups through the process.

Participants will be taken through the inquiry process and related application requirements, with a view to building capacity to train other staff / mentors within their school or early childhood service and identifing their role at each stage of the process.

This one-day workshop has been organised in response to feedback from schools with large numbers of PRTs who are developing programs to support multiple graduates and returning teachers.

An email including venue details and dates will be sent to schools and early childhood providers in late January, with registrations opening in February.

PRT Seminars

VIT will continue to offer PRT Seminars after school hours to help PRTs develop their understanding of what is required in order to move from provisional to (full) registration.

Seminars will be held across the greater Melbourne area, Geelong and in several regional centres. There will also be seven online seminars.

More information about the locations and how to register will be available in February 2020.

CRT PRT Seminars

The face-to-face and online PRT Seminars are open for all casual relief teacher (CRT) PRTs to attend. There will be three additional online seminars to address the specific challenges that CRT PRTs may face when undertaking the provisional to (full) registration process.

More information about how to register will be available in February 2020.
