Transition plans: moving to one new employer portal

2 DECEMBER 2019

Changes to school and employer portals

The Victorian Institute of Teaching is improving the registration process for both principals and teachers. We want it to be simple and user-friendly, and we know our current system isn’t meeting this goal. Consequently, we are developing a new teacher registration system, named Nexus.

Most teachers with a registration number beginning with ‘6’ have recently been migrated into the new system. The remaining teachers will progressively move into Nexus as new functions are built and tested during 2020.

Teachers and their employers will be advised before they are moved into the new system, and will be provided with guidance material on what they are required to do.

VIT will hold live trials with teachers and employers throughout the design and build. If you are interested in participating in a trial, please email ceo@vit.vic.edu.au.

Transition plans: from two separate school and employer portals to one new employer portal

Currently each portal has different functionality - we recognise this is not ideal for employers trying to manage their teachers.

Existing school portal

Nexus employer portal

Contains 122,000 teachers with a registration number beginning with ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’ or ‘4’

Has complete functionality. Teachers will be progressively moved from this portal into the Nexus employer portal as new functions are added.

Contains 13,300 teachers with a registration number beginning with ‘6’ who are either newly registered or have completed their 2019-20 registration tasks.

Currently only has the ability to recommend provisionally registered teachers for (full) registration.

Access

You can access the school portal by logging in with your School ID and password - always use lowercase letters.

Access

You can login to the Nexus employer portal with your username (school email address) and password – use a Chrome browser for best results.

If this is your first time logging in, you must create a new password by clicking on ‘Forgot my password’.

How to check a teacher's registration status

You can check the registration status of teachers with a registration number beginning with ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’ or ‘4’ through the school portal OR by searching the register.

How to check a teacher's registration status

Until the new functions are built, you can check the registration status of teachers with a registration number beginning with ‘6’ ONLY by searching the register.

Most principals will continue to predominantly use the existing school portal until August next year. Only a few principals will need to use the new Nexus employer portal until everyone is transitioned in August 2020.

What do principals need to do?

VIT will communicate to teachers and employers as each stage is completed, with detailed instructions on what is required.

As those provisionally registered teachers whose registration number starts with ‘6’ begin to apply for (full) registration, principals will receive an email from VIT asking them to log into the Nexus employer portal to provide their recommendation.

Teachers who are (fully) registered will not have any registration requirements to complete in Nexus system until the 2020-21 registration period.

Want to be part of the change?

To ensure the system is fit-for-purpose, VIT will hold live trials with teachers and employers throughout the design and build.

If you are interested in participating in a trial, please email ceo@vit.vic.edu.au.

We appreciate your patience and support over the next 12 months as we transition all registered teachers onto the Nexus system.
