Victorian Government Tutor Learning initiative

22 OCTOBER 2020

Victorian schools are recruiting more than 4,100 teaching professionals as tutors to support students in catching up with any learning they may have missed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

If you are a pre-service teacher, a teacher on leave, a teacher working part-time who is looking for more hours, a recently retired teacher or a casual relief teacher, you may be eligible to apply for a tutoring position as part of the Victorian Government’s $250 million initiative.

The VIT is working with the Department of Education and Training (DET) to ensure applications are processed in time for the commencement of the program (Term 1 2021).

If you haven't done so already, please confirm your eligibility and pre-register your interest in participating in the Tutor Learning initiative with DET.

The employing school will initiate the process with VIT to ensure that only those recruited for tutoring roles are asked to register with VIT. Once we receive confirmation that you have been offered a position, you will be able to apply for teacher registration (if you aren’t already registered).

Pre-service teachers will not need to register with VIT. The Tutor Learning initiative will relate to their teacher education program and professional placement and they will always be under the supervision of a (fully) registered teacher.

Please note: early childhood teachers are excluded from this initiative. Under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006, only registered teachers or holders of permission to teach are able to undertake the duties of a teacher in Victorian schools.
