Launched in 2018, The Menzies School Leadership Fellowship Program is a dynamic incubator process that capitalizes individual, school, cohort and system level leadership and aspires to develop scalable systemic leadership interventions to improve student learning outcomes.
The Fellowship is led by a multi-sector collaboration comprised of school leaders, their school and corporate, philanthropic and university partners.
The Fellowship will be for two years and aims to act as a platform and incubation process to understand key levers in leadership development and to use these insights to build a scalable leadership model across the education system.
The aims of the program are:
Acknowledge outstanding school leaders and enable pathways to further develop their leadership capacity.
Support Fellows to scale and/or pilot ‘collective efficacy’ projects (CEP’s) in each Fellow’s school to improve student learning outcomes.
Share learnings from the ‘collective efficacy’ projects with other schools and the education system more broadly.
In partnership with the cohort of Fellows explore the leadership profile of current school leaders, identify opportunities for leadership development and develop and implement a School Leadership Development program for the Fellows.
Share these insights with the education system to encourage the development of an education leadership pipeline which is adaptive and focused on improving student learning outcomes.

To be eligible to apply for a Menzies School Leader Fellowship you must be:
A school leader including:
1. A Principal; a Principal is responsible for
- The delivery of a comprehensive curriculum
- A community through governance of a school council
- The management of financial and human resources; or
2. An Assistant Principal; is primarily responsible for
- The management of significant areas or functions within the school
- Making significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school’s strategic plan, policies and budget
- Contributing to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making
3. An Australian citizen; and
4. A teacher at a government, Catholic and/or independent School in Victoria currently registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
