Register for the 2021 Koorie Youth Summit
The Koorie Youth Summit (Summit), now in it's eight year, is Victoria's largest gathering for and by Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander young people. This event is an amazing opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to come together and join in a range of exciting activities.
This year’s Summit is being held online, with 9 deadly panels, workshops and interactive yarns held across 3 weeks, starting 9th of November. With your help, we can ensure more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in Victoria can have the space to connect in a time that connection to mob and culture is more important than ever.
The Summit is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people living in Victoria aged 16-28 years old.
Theme
The theme for this year, 'Barring Djuwima (Sharing Journeys): Heal, Grow, Thrive', is about reflecting on the year that was, creating space to share our experiences and hold knowledge through each other. Barring Djuwima means 'Sharing Journeys' in the Dja Dja Wurrung language.
To heal is to acknowledge our strength and resilience, and the ways our communities have connected and looked after each other during these unprecedented times. To grow is to take all that we have learned to make new teachings for the future. And to thrive is to celebrate our connection to our culture and communities, to inspire our ongoing journeys as young people so we can continue to heal, grow and thrive for centuries to come.
The 2021 Summit Theme speaks to moving forward from the challenges and sacrifices Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people made in 2020—a defining year in their journey—to grow and thrive in their communities and be the best that they can be.
