VIT’s new teacher registration system

Improving the way we interact with teachers

The Victorian Institute of Teaching is improving the registration process for both teachers and their employers. We want it to be simple and user-friendly, and we know our current system isn’t meeting this goal. Consequently, we are developing a new teacher registration system.

The new system will improve the way VIT interacts with teacher and their employers

  • better user experience
  • self-service registration activities
  • paperless applications
  • faster application processing times
  • greater responsiveness to teacher registration issues

All your registration needs on one platform

In late 2020, VIT will move to one registration platform for all Victorian teachers and their employers to manage all their registration requirements, including the renewal process.

The system will allow teachers and employers to

  • keep personal and employment details up to date
  • create, manage and submit applications for registration
  • renew and maintain registration, including completing five-yearly Nationally Coordinated Criminal Record Checks

New functionality will be released throughout 2020

Most teachers with a registration number beginning with ‘6’ have recently been migrated into the new system. The remaining teachers will progressively move across as new functions are built and tested during 2020.

Teachers and their employers will be advised before they are moved into the new system and will be provided with guidance material on what they are required to do.

VIT will hold live trials with teachers and employers throughout the design and build. If you are interested in participating in a trial, please email ceo@vit.vic.edu.au.

Things to consider when using the new system

  • works best using Chrome or Firefox – we recommend installing either of these browsers
  • if you are commencing an application, ensure you have all the required documentation, as you cannot submit until you have satisfied all requirements
  • VIT only accepts credit and debit card payments

How will the changes impact you?

Teachers and early childhood teachers with a registration number starting with ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’ or ‘4’
  • continue to use current system until migrated to new system in August 2020

Then

  • annual registration tasks will be exclusively online, including payment
