Share your voice in the 2026 Australian Teacher Workforce Survey
The 2026 Australian Teacher Workforce Survey is now open and all registered teachers in Victoria are invited to take part.
Your voice matters in creating positive change for Australia's teaching profession. This isn't just another survey – it's your opportunity to influence national education policy. Your feedback will help inform national discussions about teacher workforce trends, challenges and opportunities.
About the survey
The survey is part of the Australian Teacher Workforce Data (ATWD) initiative, led by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
It’s your chance to directly influence national education policies and ensure decisions about the profession are informed by the people who know it best. If you don’t speak up, others will decide for you!
The survey is voluntary and all responses are anonymised to protect your privacy. It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
How to take part
This year’s survey is part of the annual registration process. Once you complete your 2026-27 annual registration tasks, you’ll receive a unique survey link.
- Open an email from VIT with the subject line “You've successfully completed your annual registration tasks”
- Follow the link to complete the survey
- Share your experiences and perspectives on working in the teaching profession

Why your participation matters
Thanks to teachers like you, we have a better understanding of the profession than ever before.
Recent findings from the ATWD show that
- full-time classroom teachers report long hours during school terms (median of 50 hours per week)
- 40% of the workforce has 6-19 years' experience in the teaching profession
- 56% of early career teachers reported receiving a formal induction, with mentoring and reduced face-to-face teaching hours identified as the most useful activities
- 34% of teachers are unsure if they will stay in the profession until retirement.
By participating in this year's survey, you can help AITSL understand whether these findings reflect your experience and what changes may be needed to support the profession.
