2026-27 annual registration is now open

Everything you need to know about completing your annual registration, accessing your digital registration card and getting support.

Annual registration is now open, and all teachers are required to complete their annual registration tasks by 30 September 2026, regardless of their registration category. Teachers will receive their annual registration notifications via email and SMS, so keep an eye on your inbox for further guidance and support.

We know this is a busy time of year, so we've designed the annual registration process to be as straightforward as possible.

What happens next

Your application may require additional assessment if you're due for a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), have made a suitability declaration, or are selected for audit. We'll contact you directly if we need further information.

Once your registration has been approved, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to access and use your digital registration card to verify your registration details. Your registration status and expiry date will also be updated on the register of teachers.

Why this matters

Maintaining your registration through the annual registration process helps ensure Victorian learners are taught by qualified and registered teachers. It also supports public confidence in the teaching profession and helps uphold the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Completing your annual registration on time ensures you can continue teaching and helps us maintain a trusted and professional teaching workforce across Victoria.

Need help?

The following information may help you experience an even smoother annual registration process.

Accessing your MyVIT account

If you're experiencing issues logging in

  • ensure you are using the latest version of Google Chrome
  • reset your password using the password reset function
    • it’s important that you only click on the link once
    • the email may take up to two hours to receive
  • check your junk or spam folder for password reset emails
  • avoid creating a new MyVIT account, as this can create duplicate records and delay your application.
Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks

All teachers are required to complete an NCCHC every four to five years as part of maintaining registration.

If you're due for an NCCHC this year, you'll also need to

  • update your identity documents in your MyVIT account
  • verify your identity through Service Victoria or by submitting a Verification of Identity form.

We encourage teachers who need to update their identity documents to do so as early as possible to avoid delays.

*If registration was granted before 30 September, the NCCHC will be conducted as part of the annual registration process during the fourth year.

Updating your identity documents

If you're due for a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) this year, you'll need to update and verify your identity documents before completing your annual registration tasks.

To get ready

  1. log in to your MyVIT account
  2. select 'Update my ID Documents' and follow the prompts
  3. provide three (3) different identity documents and verify they belong to you.

To help avoid delays, we recommend you start sourcing your documents as early as possible. Where available, use the suggested documents in MyVIT, such as your Australian passport, Australian driver licence and physical Medicare card, and ensure you upload both the front and back of each document.

Suitability declarations

When completing your annual registration declaration, only declare impairments that seriously detrimentally affect, or are likely to seriously detrimentally affect, your ability to practise as a teacher.

When making declarations about your suitability to teach, please do not declare physical or mental impairments that do not seriously detrimentally affect, or are unlikely to seriously detrimentally affect, your ability to practise as a teacher, such as pregnancy or a temporary injury like a broken bone.

Permission to Teach

If you hold Permission to Teach (PTT) with an expiry date next year or later, you must complete your annual registration requirements each year, including

  • payment of the annual registration fee
  • an NCCHC, if required.

If annual registration requirements are not completed by Tuesday 30 September 2026, a late fee will apply. A grace period is available until Thursday 31 December 2026. If requirements remain incomplete after this date, your PTT grant may be suspended.

Tax receipts

Upon payment, you’ll be prompted to view or download a copy of your receipt. You can also view and download payment history at any time through your MyVIT account by navigating to the 'View applications' tile. Right-click the down arrow (on the far-right side) of the relevant application and select ‘View receipt’.

To request a copy of pre-2021 invoices for tax-purposes, please contact VIT.
