If you have not met the professional practice and/or professional learning renewal requirements or are not currently working as a teacher in Victoria you can apply for non-practising registration. This registration allows you to maintain your registration but does not require you to maintain your professional practice or progress from provisional to full registration.

You can stay non-practising for as long as you wish provided you pay the ongoing fees and continue to meet suitability requirements. However, you cannot undertake the duties of a teacher in a Victorian school or as an early childhood teacher in a Victorian early childhood service while you hold non-practising registration.

If a teacher holds full or provisional registration, they can apply to become non-practising at any time* and monitor the status of their application through their MyVIT account by navigating to the 'Manage registration' tile and selecting 'Apply for non-practising'. Their name will continue to appear on the register of teachers.

*During the annual registration period (mid-August to 31 December) fully registered teachers can only apply for non-practising registration when they complete their annual registration tasks.
