At times, teachers and early childhood teachers require confirmation of their current professional standing, typically when seeking employment or registration in other jurisdictions. The Statement of Current Registration Status (SOCRS) provides this formal confirmation of registration in approved circumstances.
A SOCRS is not required to prove registration status – this can be done by viewing the register of teachers or the teacher’s digital registration card. VIT registered teachers applying for registration in another Australian state or territory or New Zealand are not required to obtain a SOCRS.
Who can apply for a SOCRS?
- teachers and early childhood teachers who hold or have previously held registration with VIT
- current or previous permission to teach (PTT) holders.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for a SOCRS, individuals must currently hold or have previously held registration with VIT.
In some cases, an individual may not be eligible. For example, if their application for registration has been refused, disqualified or cancelled, or if they are subject of an ongoing investigation or preliminary assessment by VIT.
Read more about exclusions in the SOCRS guidelines.
How to apply
- Submit an application for a SOCRS via your MyVIT account and pay the applicable fee.
- Provide details of where you want VIT to direct the SOCRS, if applicable.
We aim to issue a SOCRS within 30 days of receiving a complete application.
Current registration status can be confirmed via the register of teachers or the teacher’s digital registration card. A SOCRS is not required if you are seeking registration in another Australian state or territory or New Zealand via mutual recognition and hold current registration in Victoria.
