The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Council is supported by committees that provide detailed oversight and advice across key areas of our work.
Committees allow the Council to consider matters in depth, drawing on relevant expertise and ensuring decisions are informed, consistent and aligned with our regulatory responsibilities. Each committee has a defined role and operates under a formal charter approved by the Council.
Audit, Risk Management and Finance Committee
The Audit, Risk Management and Finance Committee oversees our financial, risk, audit and administrative functions. It supports the Council to meet its obligations under governing legislation and ensures appropriate financial management, accountability and risk oversight.
The Committee:
- reviews and provides advice on financial requirements and compliance
- recommends the development and implementation of strategic and business plan budgets
- monitors risk management and internal control systems
- advises on the effectiveness of financial, accounting and management information systems.
People and Culture Committee
The People and Culture Committee provides oversight and advice on our people strategy, organisational culture and workforce sustainability.
The Committee considers workforce data, initiatives and policy directions to support organisational capability, performance and wellbeing, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives.
Professional Conduct Committee
The Professional Conduct Committee oversees decision-making in relation to serious matters concerning teacher conduct, competence and fitness to teach.
The Committee:
- determines outcomes following investigations into serious misconduct, incompetence or impairment
- decides whether to impose conditions on, suspend or cancel a teacher’s registration
- may refuse registration or renewal registration
- considers agreements with teachers regarding disciplinary outcomes.
Accreditation Committee
The Accreditation Committee assesses and approves initial teacher education (ITE) pathway programs and ensures ITE programs meet national accreditation standards.
The Committee:
- assesses ITE programs for the purposes of teacher registration
- ensures alignment with national standards and procedures
- includes expertise from government and non-government teachers, principals, teacher educators and employer representatives.
