The Executive Team is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Working under the direction of the VIT Council, the Executive Team leads the delivery of our regulatory functions, strategic priorities and organisational operations.

Together, the Executive Team ensures our work supports safe learning environments, upholds professional standards, and maintains public confidence in the teaching profession.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The CEO is responsible for leading our operations and implementing the strategic direction set by the Council. This includes overseeing regulatory activity, organisational performance and engagement with stakeholders. 

Martin Fletcher

Martin Fletcher brings a wealth of experience in organisational leadership, regulatory delivery and reform, professional standards, and accreditation and quality assurance.

Prior to joining VIT, Martin was the CEO of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, where he led the national regulatory scheme for more than 900,000 health practitioners across 16 professions, working in partnership with 15 National Health Practitioner Boards. Earlier in his career, he served as CEO of the National Patient Safety Agency in England and worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) to establish a global patient safety program.

Martin holds a Master of Management (Public Sector Management), an Honours degree in behavioural sciences and an undergraduate degree in social studies. He is an honorary Adjunct Professor with the School of Health and Biomedical Science at RMIT University and has previously served as co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Workforce Regulation.
