What sparked your interest in becoming a Council member?
My interest in becoming a Council member came from my engagement with the VIT in my graduate years. I was most interested in the process of graduate teachers moving from provisional to full registration, and the support offered to them by VIT mentors in schools.
What is your role outside your work on the VIT Council?
I am a classroom teacher in a Government Secondary School. My teaching areas are Psychology and Applied Learning, including running a cafe once a week with a group of year 9 students!
What extracurricular activities do you enjoy doing?
I write and play music when I'm not working, and I try to save every leftover dollar to travel the world with my partner.
What part of your work do you find most rewarding?
The "aha!" moments, when a student finally gets something they've been struggling with, or when a student finds themselves accidentally enjoying their learning.
Was there a teacher who really made a difference in your life or education? What was it about them that made such an impact?
Mrs Leech in Grade 1. She made me feel like I could do anything, and I always had so much fun in class.
