- 14,929 first-time registrants joining the profession
- 1,278 overseas-qualified teachers joining the Victorian teacher register
- 168 outreach programs delivered to support teachers and mentors
- 50% reduction in VIT’s historical professional conduct backlog
- implementation of significant professional conduct reforms to strengthen child safety and improve timeliness.
Martin Fletcher, Chief Executive Officer, said the report reflects a year of strong progress for VIT, while recognising there is still important work ahead.
“This year has been one of significant progress for VIT. We have smoothed pathways into the profession, improved our regulatory performance, and advanced important reforms that help protect children and young people while supporting a strong teaching workforce,” said Mr Fletcher.
“I’m incredibly proud of what our people have achieved and grateful for the support of teachers, education leaders and our partners across the sector. These results reflect a shared commitment to serving the Victorian community and strengthening public confidence in the profession.”
The report also highlights VIT's work to strengthen transparency and accountability, including the introduction of quarterly regulatory performance reporting, Council communiqués and a refreshed communication approach designed to provide clearer and more accessible information for teachers and stakeholders.
“We’ve made meaningful progress, but we know our work doesn’t stop here. Community expectations continue to evolve, and we must continue to streamline our systems, improve our services and ensure our approach to regulation remains responsive, transparent and focused on what matters most: the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
We remain committed to supporting teachers throughout their careers, maintaining high professional standards and building a regulatory system that is trusted by parents, the broader community and teachers.”
