Early Learning Matters Week 2024

Early Learning Matters Week is running from 5-9 August 2024

Organised by Early Childhood Australia, the annual celebration of Early Learning Matters Week aims to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of early learning and the profound impact of the profession on children and communities.

It is a great opportunity to tell your community how high-quality early education and care supports children to be confident, enthusiastic learners. Through play-based learning, children build a strong foundation for wellbeing and achievement that helps set them up for life.

Early Learning Matters Week also sets out to bring together early childhood teachers, educators, parents, caregivers, and community leaders to celebrate and advocate for high-quality early learning, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration in promoting the wellbeing of children and communities.

Where it all began

Early Learning Matters Week first started in 2018, as part of the Early Learning: Everyone Benefits campaign, supported by a coalition of more than 20 early childhood service providers, peak bodies and research and advocacy groups.

Initially, the primary purpose of Early Learning Matters Week was to better inform political decision-makers – across the party spectrum and across the nation – about the benefits of early learning.

Early Learning Matters Week has now expanded to include families and communities in recognition of the role early learning services play in supporting families and building our society.
