Streamlining teacher registration for early childhood employers

We're making it easier for early childhood providers and services to manage their teacher registration responsibilities in one convenient online portal.

Improvements to the VIT Employer portal will provide greater visibility of teacher registration information, help providers and services support child safety requirements and meet their regulatory obligations more efficiently.

What's changing?

From October 2026, all early childhood providers and their services will be connected through a new VIT Employer portal structure.

The portal will also provide improved search functionality and streamlined account management for a more efficient way to access and manage information.

For providers (including councils)

Each early childhood provider will access a provider portal to manage the services under their operation.

Through the portal, all providers will be able to

  • update their provider information
  • view and manage multiple linked services from one account, including adding or removing services
  • add, remove and view early childhood teachers on their own teacher list and their linked services teacher lists
  • view and action provisional to full and returning to full applications submitted to them or their linked service
  • access VIT communications.
For services under provider management

Each early childhood service will access a service portal to manage the teachers under their employment. These services will be linked to their provider's portal, creating a clearer connection between providers and services.

Through the portal, these services will be able to

  • update their service information
  • add, remove and view early childhood teachers on their own teacher list
  • view and action provisional to full and returning to full applications submitted to them
  • access VIT communications.

Services linked to the same provider won’t have access to view each other's portals.

For council-run services, the early childhood provider will manage their teacher registration information via the provider portal.

For services under their own management

Each early childhood service will access a service portal to manage the teachers under their employment. These services will not be linked to a provider portal, as they are under their own management.

Through the portal, these services will be able to

  • update their service information
  • add, remove and view early childhood teachers on their own teacher list
  • view and action provisional to full and returning to full applications submitted to them
  • access VIT communications.

Why we're making changes

Employers play an important role in supporting teacher registration and keeping children safe. Early childhood providers and services have a shared responsibility to ensure their teachers hold valid early childhood teacher registration.

They do this by monitoring the registration details of teachers they employ using the VIT Employer portal, such as checking their registration status, category, expiry date and condition(s).

We know managing this information across multiple services can be time-consuming. We want to empower employers to be on top of this by providing a portal that’s easy to use and free from administrative burden.

The portal also allows them to easily recommend teachers for full registration, helping to build to the next cohort of confident, safe and capable teachers entering our workforce.

These changes will help ensure teachers hold current and appropriate registration for their teaching role, while supporting a safe environment for all Victorian learners.

How it helps providers and services

The improved portal has been designed to help

  • find and verify teacher registration information faster
  • improve visibility and transparency across organisations
  • reduce duplication and administrative effort
  • complete registration-related tasks with greater confidence
  • meet regulatory obligations more efficiently.
