2024 National Standout Educator Awards

Meet the Victorian winners

Two Victorian early childhood teachers (ECTs) have been recognised in the G8 Education 2024 National Standout Educator Awards.

The awards aim to recognise commitment to play-based learning and excellence across six categories

  • safety
  • sustainability
  • community engagement
  • family engagement
  • mentoring
  • outstanding practice.

Winners were selected from six finalists in each respective category, and judged by an expert panel from G8 Education. Each category winner received funding to support professional development of their choice.

The VIT wishes to congratulate the 2024 winners for their excellence in education.

Outstanding practice

Padmashree Sharma

Greenwood Burwood East

Padmashree (‘Paddy’) was nominated for this award based on her strong commitment to outstanding practice, planning and implementing personalised programs based on the individual needs of the children, and always ensuring individual observations are shared with families.

Paddy includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in every learning space and puts a strong focus on ensuring all children are supported and included. In her service, Paddy created a mindfulness room where she practices rainbow relaxation and rhythm and movement for self-regulation (RAMSR), helping the children build on their emotional regulation and resilience. Children in Paddy’s care often go home and recite to their families that “Paddy says it’s okay to make mistakes, they make us learn.”

Paddy’s team shared that she is exceptional in creating high quality learning areas with informative learning displays that showcase children's progress and achievements, and her commitment to critical reflection and professional growth is evident in her active involvement in her centre.

Safety Award

Jyoti Dange

Creative Garden Early Learning Berwick

Jyoti exhibits unparalleled dedication to promoting a safety culture in her centre, and even stepped into the role of Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer after less than a year in the organisation. Jyoti immediately recognised that some crucial tasks, such as risk assessments, were incomplete, and took initiative to rectify the situation. Jyoti is known for regularly going above and beyond to ensure all tasks are completed to the highest standard.

Jyoti leads by example and has inspired the entire team, mentoring them in safety standards and risk assessments, and always making sure they are engaged in improving practices and fostering a culture of safety consciousness.
