Changes to LANTITE requirements
In response to the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan, limits to the number of attempts to complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) have been removed.
Previously, pre-service teachers (PSTs) were limited to a total of three attempts.
In line with Priority Area 2 - Strengthening initial teacher education the measures aim to ensure ITE education supports teacher supply and delivers classroom ready graduates.
This change will assist all PSTs in attempting LANTITE within their first year of studies, as is now required in line with the Addendum to the Accreditation Standards published by the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). This addendum also allows for the recognition of (Australian) First Nations language proficiency by the relevant cultural authority as an acceptable alternative standard to LANTITE.
Information on the removal of re-sit limits to LANTITE can be found on the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) website. ITE providers are encouraged to remind PSTs about the alternative standard to LANTITE available to PSTs who are proficient in a First Nations language.
