From Monday 3 August to Sunday 9 August 2026, communities across Australia will celebrate Early Learning Matters Week, recognising the important role early childhood education plays in children’s learning, development and wellbeing.

Led by Early Childhood Australia, this week highlights the contribution of early childhood teachers and educations who support children to become confident, capable and enthusiastic learners.

Through high-quality early learning and care, children develop the social, emotional, cognitive and communication skills that help them thrive at school and throughout life.

Why early learning matters

The benefits of early childhood education extend far beyond a single week of celebration.

Every day, early learning settings provide opportunities for children to explore, create, build relationships and develop confidence through play-based learning. These experiences help children develop the skills, knowledge and resilience they need now and into the future.

Early Learning Matters Week also brings together teachers, educators, families, carers and community leaders to recognise the value of high-quality early learning and advocate for every child to have the best possible start in life.
