Join VIT at the 2025 Welcome to the Profession Conference
Are you a beginning teacher about to start your teaching career? Did you know you're required to gain VIT registration before you can teach in a Victorian school or early childhood service?
And once you're a registered teacher, how do you know you're ready to deliver the best outcomes for your learners?
An induction for beginning teachers in Victoria
Understanding teacher registration requirements and why teacher registration is important is essential for a beginning teacher in their early career. A thorough induction into the profession is also critical to gain the skills and confidence necessary to deliver quality teaching.
Following the success of last year’s event, the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) is again delivering the Welcome to the Profession Conference to support the induction process for beginning teachers looking to teach in Victoria.
The conference seeks to introduce beginning teachers to VIT’s regulatory functions and the resources available to comply with their teacher registration requirements. It will also focus on delivering tailored workshops to develop teaching practice and knowledge to build greater confidence in the classroom.

Conference program
In 2025, the conference is increasing its capacity to accommodate the growing demand for early career support, with tailored workshops available for beginning teachers in both the school and early childhood sectors.
School teacher workshop
In a bespoke workshop delivered by renowned educational consultant Glen Pearsall, participants will learn easy-to-implement classroom management techniques and build their teaching repertoire through the discussion and modelling of effective instructional practices.
Early childhood teacher workshop
Catharine Hydon invites participants to explore strategies for teaching success, equipping them with the confidence and tools to not only support outcomes for every child’s learning, but also foster a thriving learning community that fulfils the promise of early childhood education.
Invest in your professional development
During the breakout session, participants can engage with employment and professional learning organisations across the Victorian school and early childhood sectors to gain information and resources that support their professional growth. There will also be an opportunity to discuss registration requirements with dedicated VIT representatives.
If you’re a pre-service teacher about to graduate, a provisionally registered teacher (PRT) in the first year of your career or a PTT holder working towards gaining teacher registration, this conference is a must! Bookings are essential and places are limited.
