Schools, are you ready for term 1?

Read about the application assessment process and what VIT is doing to help

The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) recognises that schools are facing ongoing workforce shortages and is working as quickly as possible to assess all the last minute applications that have come through before the start of term 1.

We are prioritising the assessment of applications with a teaching position start date commencing in January. Start dates can be added retrospectively to an application via the applicant’s MyVIT account.

Icon Important Info

To avoid delays in the assessment, we ask that you do not contact us unless your query is urgent. If VIT requires further information to finalise an application, the applicant will be contacted as soon as practicable.

Please ask your applicants to keep an eye out for any emails or SMS contact from VIT, and advise they action requests as quickly as possible.

How long does the assessment process take?

Applications can take up to 6 weeks to assess once all documentation has been submitted.

Possible reasons for delays

  • we must undertake a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) on behalf of the applicant - this can take time to be returned to VIT
  • the VIT is currently awaiting evidence of completion for a large number of Victorian initial teacher education program graduates - we expected this information from providers by the end of December 2024, and we’ve contacted graduate applicants directly to source this information
  • we are currently working through applications that were submitted without all the required documentation – this can add a significant amount of time to the assessment process due to back and forth contact between VIT and the applicant.

You can read more about the assessment process here.

We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure as many applicants as possible are approved ahead of term 1 2025.
