VIT Announces Leadership Transition

The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) today announced that Chief Executive Officer Martin Fletcher will be leaving the organisation to pursue a new leadership opportunity in the United Kingdom, concluding a significant chapter in the organisation's history.

VIT Council Chair Dale Pearce paid tribute to Mr Fletcher’s leadership and contribution to the organisation.

"Martin has made an outstanding contribution to VIT, the Victorian community and the teaching profession during his time as Chief Executive Officer. His leadership has helped strengthen the organisation's regulatory capability, supported important reform initiatives, and ensured the VIT has remained focused on its core purpose of maintaining public confidence in the teaching profession."

"On behalf of Council, I thank Martin for his dedication and service. He leaves the organisation well positioned for the future, with a clear strategic direction, strong governance foundations, and a highly capable workforce. We wish him every success in the next stage of his career."

Reflecting on his time at the VIT, Mr Fletcher said he was proud of the progress made by the organisation and the people who had contributed to its success.

"It has been a privilege to lead the VIT and work alongside such committed and talented colleagues, Council members and stakeholders. Throughout my time as CEO, our focus has remained on supporting a safe and trusted teaching profession in Victoria."

"I am particularly proud of the way the organisation has embraced change, strengthened its regulatory practice, and continued to deliver for the Victorian community. The achievements of recent years have been the result of the collective efforts of our staff and the strong partnerships we have built across the education sector."

Mr Fletcher said he was confident the organisation is well placed for the future.

"The VIT has a clear sense of purpose, a strong Executive Leadership Team, and dedicated staff who are deeply committed to their work. I have every confidence that the organisation will continue to build on its achievements and successfully deliver its important responsibilities."

The VIT Council will commence a recruitment process for a new Chief Executive Officer in due course.

VIT Council Chair Dale Pearce said the organisation remained focused on delivering its strategic priorities and regulatory responsibilities throughout the transition period.

"The VIT is in a strong position and Council is committed to ensuring a smooth leadership transition. We look forward to appointing a new CEO who can build on the significant progress achieved under Martin's leadership and guide the organisation through its next phase."
