2025-26 annual registration period
All teachers are required to complete the annual registration process by 30 September each year to maintain your registration, regardless of your registration category.
This year, VIT registration is going fully digital with all teachers receiving their annual registration notifications via email and SMS, and the introduction of digital registration cards.
Keep an eye on your inbox - annual registration notifications will be sent out from mid-August. As we head into the new registration period, we’re here to help make the process as smooth as possible.
How to complete your annual registration tasks
- Log in to your MyVIT account
- Your username is your email address (provided in your email notification)
- If you need help, you can reset your password
- Once you’re logged in, click the orange ‘Complete annual registration tasks and pay’ tile and follow the prompts.
Watch the video below to find out everything you need to know about completing your annual registration tasks.
Your application may require additional assessment if you’re due for a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), declare a suitability matter, or are selected for audit. We’ll contact you directly if we need further information to assess your application.
You’ll receive an email notification once your registration has been approved, including instructions on how to access your new digital registration card, and your expiry date will be updated on the register of teachers and in your MyVIT account.
What do you need help with?
Your MyVIT account
If you’re having trouble logging into your MyVIT account, you may be using an unsupported web browser. Please ensure you are using the latest version of Google Chrome.
Resetting your password is easy! You’ll receive an email with a reset password link, please note
- it’s important that you only click on the link once
- the email may take up to two hours to receive
- check your junk mail folder, and
- the link will expire within 24 hours.
If you don’t receive a password reset link, please check your junk mail and ensure VIT has been added to your safe senders list. Please don’t set up a new account - this will cause duplicate accounts and delay your ability to complete your annual registration tasks.
Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
All teachers, regardless of registration category, are required to undertake an NCCHC once every four to five years* from the date you registered with VIT. This occurs as part of the annual registration process, within the application.
*If registration was granted before 30 September, the NCCHC will be conducted as part of the annual registration process during the fourth year.
Updating your identity documents
If you’re due for an NCCHC this year, you’ll need to update your identity documents. Log in to your MyVIT account, head to the ‘Update my ID Documents’ tile and follow the prompts.
You’ll also need to verify your current identity documents. You can do this instantly using your smartphone via Service Victoria.
If you prefer, you can download and print a Verification of Identity Form and have it signed by an authorised third party - this may cause delays in completing your annual registration tasks, so we recommend taking action as soon as possible.
Read more about proving and verifying your identity and why the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) now requires you to provide current documents.
Suitability declarations
The VIT considers suitability in the context of whether you may have an impairment that seriously detrimentally affects, or is likely to seriously detrimentally affect, your ability to practise as a teacher. Impairments can consist of physical or mental impairments, disabilities, conditions or disorders including substance abuse or dependence.
When making declarations about your suitability to teach, please don't declare physical or mental impairments that do not seriously detrimentally affect, or are unlikely to seriously detrimentally affect, your ability to practise as a teacher (e.g. pregnancy or broken bones).
Tax receipts
Upon payment, you’ll be prompted to view or download a copy of your receipt. You can also view and download payment history at any time through your MyVIT account by navigating to the 'View applications' tile. Right-click the down arrow (on the far-right side) of the relevant application and select ‘View receipt’.
To request a copy of pre-2021 invoices for tax-purposes, please email VIT.
Permission to Teach (PTT)
If you hold PTT, with an expiry date next year or later, you are required to do the following within each registration period (1 October to 30 September)
- complete an (NCCHC) as required
- pay an annual registration fee.
If you don’t complete your annual registration tasks and make payment by 30 September each year, a late fee is applied, and you’re given a three-month grace period until 31 December to complete your tasks. During this time, you’ll remain registered and will be able to work as a teacher in a Victorian school, as specified in your PTT grant.
If you don’t complete the annual registration requirements by 31 December, your PTT grant will be suspended and you’ll be removed from the register of teachers. If this occurs, you’ll no longer be able to undertake the duties of a teacher until you have made payment and successfully revoked your suspension.
