Progress update - Program Standard 3.5 changes

An update on implementation and assessment.

In 2024, an Addendum to the Accreditation of initial teacher education programs in Australia (Standards and Procedures) was published.

Earlier in the year, we shared the new changes to the accreditation of initial teacher education (ITE) program standards and procedures and updates to Program Standard 3.5.

Program Standard 3.5

The changes require

  • all pre-service teachers to attempt LANTITE in the first year of their ITE program
  • ITE providers have processes in place to accept First Nations language proficiency as an acceptable alternative standard to LANTITE.

Victorian ITE providers are on track to have these changes implemented in the expected timeframe.

Core Content

The VIT has started receiving applications for implementation of Core Content. These programs are being assessed by co-case managers and trained panellists as part of the Core Content assessment panel, the panel is working closely to moderate the assessment of the evidence provided. VIT is also working collaboratively with other jurisdictions to ensure a nationally consistent approach is taken.

Submissions for Core Content implementation are expected to be submitted by 2 June 2025. ITE providers with programs due for accreditation in 2025 should contact their co-case managers to determine the appropriate format in which to submit their evidence.
