2025 AEG Forum recap
On Friday 14 March, VIT hosted the annual Accreditation Expert Group (AEG) Forum.
The AEG is a body of Victorian panellists trained in initial teacher education (ITE) program accreditation assessment at stage one (new applications) and stage two (continuation of existing programs). The group consists of teachers, employers, members of the teaching profession and the broader education community.

The event was attended by current accreditation panellists from the higher education sector and schools, including principals and teachers. Australasian Teacher Regulatory Authorities (ATRA) colleagues from the Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland were in attendance along with colleagues from the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) and VIT Accreditation and Professional Practice staff.
VIT CEO Martin Fletcher opened the forum giving an Acknowledgement of Country and speaking about his experience in the delivery of regulation and regulatory reform as former CEO of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
The year's forum focused on supporting trained accreditation panellists to understand and assess the Core Content that education providers now need to embed into their ITE programs. Core Content is made up of the pedagogical practices and responsive teaching factors that pre-service teachers will learn as part of their ITE program from 2026. The forum featured a series of hands-on workshops, facilitated by VIT Accreditation staff members Hannah Galloway, Carolyn Joubran and Jade Harrington, where participants explored sample training materials containing examples of evidence and discussed whether the evidence met the standard.
Through these valuable discussions, participants deepened their understanding of Core Content and how a panel will be assessing it. To provide more context to the foundations of Core Content, Carlie Davis, Director of Strategic Policy and Engagement at the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO), joined virtually. Carlie presented on the research that was conducted by AERO and how it informed the development of Core Content and answered questions from the AEG.
Thank you to all who attended the 2025 AEG Forum.
